Smith’s does seem to do what it claims. That is refreshing this day in age.

Frequently asked questions

What is the return policy?

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. If this isn't the case, let us know and we'll do our best to work with you to make it right.

What makes Smith’s CPES™ different from big box store wood fillers?

Unlike "fast fix" fillers that act like a rigid plastic band aid, Smith’s Original Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer (CPES)™ is a low-viscosity, solvent borne epoxy designed for deep encapsulation. It uses a "wicking" action to travel through the wood's natural capillaries the same path the rot took, mimicking the natural resins found in old-growth timber. This creates a permanent, water-resistant foundation rather than a "rot sandwich" that traps moisture.

Is CPES™ safe for use in historically protected homes?

Yes. CPES™ is the gold standard for Validation of Stewardship because it preserves the original historic fabric of your home. Rather than suggesting you "rip it out" for vinyl, CPES™ stabilizes the existing old-growth lumber, allowing you to pass inspections and maintain the high property value associated with historic integrity.

Where are your products manufactured?

Our products are manufactured locally. Smith & Company started with one idea that changed an entire industry. In March 1972, our founder, Steve Smith, created the first CPES technology. It was the original product of its kind, and over the years, it became the benchmark that many others tried to copy. We are proud to say that the original still comes from us.

Why does CPES™ take longer to cure than other epoxies?

In the world of restoration, "fast" is often a red flag for cheap quality. Smith’s CPES™ is a premium product that prioritizes quality over speed. The solvents are engineered to evaporate slowly, allowing the epoxy to penetrate deeply into the dense fibers of old growth wood before it cures. This patience ensures a permanent repair that outlasts any "instant" fix.
